One Man’s Treasures Consignment Shop, Chester County
$20,000 loan

Kyle FlanaganFURNITURE FINDS A GOOD HOME, THANKS TO KYLE’S ENTERPRISE.

Kyle Flanagan, owner of One Man’s Treasures Consignment Shop, has been reselling quality household items since November 2005.  After working in a similar shop five years ago, Kyle decided to open her own consignment shop.  Kyle notes, “I didn’t have any financial support from family and friends.  I’m definitely a self-starter.”

The majority of customers that visit One Man’s Treasures Consignment Shop are college students and first-time apartment buyers.  Kyle keeps a running “wish list” where customers can write down what they are looking for; if a similar item comes into the store, Kyle notifies the customer.  The most common items for people to drop off and buy are dressers, dining room tables, and sofas.  “It’s very important to have a good flow of items coming in and going out,” says Kyle.

If for some reason a piece of furniture won’t sell after three to four months, Kyle donates it to the local Habitat for Humanity.  While Kyle sees beautiful furniture every day, she can separate her personal wish list from work: “only a few pieces from the shop make it to my house!”
