James Cheatham, Jr.
Heads Up Barber Shop, Harrisburg
$25,000 loan
BUSINESS OWNERSHIP IS MORE THAN A CAREER FOR THIS MAN. IT’S A CHANCE TO UPLIFT AND ENCOURAGE EACH CUSTOMER WHO FREQUENTS HIS SHOP.
James Cheatham, Jr., owner of Heads Up Barber Shop, finds that the most rewarding part of his career is the relationships he creates with clients. In order to facilitate a healthy environment, Mr. Cheatham does not allow rap music or foul language in his shop. Employing two other men, the business has been a well-known establishment of uptown Harrisburg for 20 years.
Three years ago, separation of bricks on the front facade of the building prompted James to approach Community First Fund for a loan to cover the cost of repairs. Since that time Mr. Cheatham has been able to focus again on the growth of his business. James’ passions spread to other family members as well: his son Jason is opening up a barber shop this spring, his daughter Jeannice plans to open up a hair salon, and his nephew is an apprentice in the shop.
